RE: Nanodiesel fuel
Here is a description from their website:
Green Power Inc has developed a method of inexpensively converting biomass and household waste into high grade diesel fuel, a process they call "NanoDiesel" that could go a long way toward solving the world's energy and waste problems at the same time, without upsetting the CO2 balance.
The raw costs of producing such diesel is about $0.60/gallon. Covering capitalization, maintenance, marketing, decommissioning and other costs will place the actual cost much higher, but still competitive with fossil-based fuel.
The conversion of input waste to fuel output is around 25-30% efficient. One ton of input waste will produce around 120 gallons (~3.8 barrels) of diesel. Materials that can be converted to diesel fuel through this process include plastics (including PVCs), rubber, waste oils, agricultural wastes (food and animal waste) and wood.
The product is not biodiesel, but is a pure hydrocarbon diesel, equivalent to what comes out of the oil fields.
Nanodiesel fuel
Has anyone on this forum read about Green Power, Inc located in Washington state that has a refinery that can use landfill waste to make nanodiesel for around .60/gal. I read an article in Trailer Life a year ago about this, so googled it and found their website. I can't believe our government hasn't jumped on this bandwagon to help these guys get more refineries built. We could kill 2 birds with one stone, reduce our dependence on foreign oil and use up the landfill waste!:B greenpowerinc
RE: Recommend me a new truck/TV
"sitting behind me driving" What were you thinking? Shouldn't your 7 yr. old son have been seatbelted in? You're lucky he wasn't killed.
RE: Rotten Egg smell
It's your battery! We had the same thing happen to our 03 Silverado Duramax diesel this summer. We smelled rotten egg, and thought it must be some factory in the town we were in where my granddaughter was playing in a softball tournament. But when the smell followed us 22 miles to our campground, we figured it was coming from the truck, so my hubby raised the hood and sure enough, one of the batteries was oozing liquid out of it. We replaced both of them since the truck was 5 yrs. old and they were 5 yr. batteries and no more smell. That was the first time we had ever had a battery do that. Usually, they just quit starting the truck and you know to replace it.
RE: "Homeless in Seattle"... 5th wheel in shop, AGAIN!
Homeless in Seattle, I feel for you. I always thought NuWa had very high quality on their units. We had a 1994 Snowbird which we had very good luck with. We only live 30 miles from the factory. We kept it 11 yrs., then traded it in on an 05 Cedar Creek and so far, we've had good luck with it, knock on wood! I just can't believe NuWa is letting their quality go downhill like that. They're high priced to begin with, we were considering buying a Discover America by NuWa, but it was so expensive, and too heavy for our truck. Keep after them about fixing this problem. I know all the rv dealers are hurting and NuWa used to have 3 plants and are now down to one.
RE: my gas tank pressurizes...does yours?
So, do you mean check them at the opening where you fill the tank, or do you have to put the vehicle on a lift and look underneath?
RE: Slip on mirrors
My husband has them on our 03 Silverado and loves them. He just leaves them on all the time and folds in the mirrors when parking in tight spots.
RE: Overheated Optima Battery
Don't know about the Optima batteries, but we recently had the same thing happen with the AC Delco battery in our 03 Silverado. We were driving and noticed a rotten egg smell. We just thought it was some manufacturing plant in the town we were in, then when the smell followed us all the way to our rv park, we decided it was coming from the truck. My husband opened the hood and finally noticed that one of our 2 batteries (Diesel truck) was oozing some liquid out of the battery. We had never had that happen with a battery before ever! So, since the batteries were 5 yr. batteries and the truck was 5 years old, we drove to Walmart the next day and had both of them replaced. Is this something new with batteries that they leak and start smelling? Usually, in the past, they just died and that's when you knew you needed a new battery.
RE: Crossing Border
WE were in Canada in June and had no problems as long as you answer no to everything! Everyone told us how we would need papers for our dog, but they didn't even ask to see them, however, if we hadn't had them, they probably would have! Just don't answer "yes" if they ask you if you have any weapons. One of the guys in our group said yes when asked if he owned any weapons, (perfectly legal in our country) and they pulled him over and searched his truck!!!!!
RE: Dish network pay as you go
I don't know about Dish, but with DirecTV, you can take a receiver out of your house, use while you're traveling, then put it back when you get home! We actually just got our 3rd receiver, because my husband was tired of hooking & unhooking the receiver every time we went somewhere. Now, we're just leaving it in the rv. You can de-activate them if you're not using them, like in the winter! We may just put it in our bedroom during the winter.
RE: Faulty Rear Door Locks
I wanted to reply regarding our rear door locks. I called our dealer and told him what Jim said regarding the relays possibly being the problem. He had me bring the truck in, and sure enough, it was the relay and not the actuators! Because the technician had mis-diagnosed our problem, he fixed it at no charge! So kudos to Jim for finding this out and letting me know!!!!! This forum really does help people.
RE: St. Louis
We tried staying at the Casino Queen last year on our way back from Indiana. We were paying cash, and she wanted our credit card anyway, we said "why", she said to protect us if you do any damage. We said, we're only spending the night, we're not going to do any damage. We were goosy about giving our credit card out because we had our number stolen earlier that year at a motel. Anyhoo, she insisted and we ended up leaving. We stayed at Jellystone Park near Six Flags. It's a little tricky to get into with a long 5th wheel, but we managed and had free wi-fi!
RE: Towels beside the toilet issue???
Listen to all those roosters strutting their stuff! They think standing up to pee makes them a man!!! Sorry guys, couldn't resist.
RE: Smell .. maybe fridge but think its electrical .. need help
Kevin, I don't know about the rv batteries, but last week when we were in SW Missouri attending a softball tournament, we noticed a sulfpher smell (rotten eggs) and thought it was some factory in the town we were in. Later, we drove to another town and still smelled it, then when we got to our rv park in Roaring River, we could still smell it, so decided it was coming from our truck! Turns out it was the battery leaking. We have two since it is a diesel, so we went to Walmart and had them replace both batteries since they were 60 month batteries and the truck is five years old next month. It was our first experience with batteries smelling like sulpher when they go bad.
RE: Why go to a Rally?
I would avoid the big rallies, like Bill said, thousands of people crammed into small spaces with no hook-ups. But having said that, we belong to the Cedar Creek RV Club and Cedar Creek RV Owners Club and have been to several of their rallies. Lots of fun, good food and meeting new people. We just returned from two rallies in June. One in Shipshewana, IN and one in Niagara Falls, Canada. Had a great time!
Faulty Rear Door Locks
I'm wondering if anyone else on this forum has had a problem with the door locks on their Chevy Duramax Diesels? We have a crew cab with the keyless entry and on a recent trip, the backdoors wouldn't lock when we push the button on our key fob, or the lock on the front doors wouldn't lock them either. They'll unlock, but not lock. We took it in to the dealer to have a fuel filter put on, and we asked him to look at them. He told us the actuators needed replacing, they cost $80/ea. plus $60/ea. to install. My husband said, "forget it."
My son doesn't think that is the problem, because he said if the actuators weren't working, the doors wouldn't unlock either. Anyone have an opinion on this or a cheap fix?
RE: Is there a problem with Rv Net ?
How about when you put your cursor over the topic and a big rectangular box flashes off and on. You use to be able to read the first first lines of a topic, but now all you get is this flashing box!
RE: Camp Lakewood near Effingham, IL
We've stayed there twice, last year and about 2 weeks ago. It is in a nice wooded area, but the small lake had a lot of moss on it. There is a Walmart super center nearby as well as numerous places to eat. We liked Joe's Pizza downtown and there is a place called Neimeyer's Steak House that sounded good. They have brochures in the office for them when you check in.
